Which Liposuction Technique is Best?

For hundreds of thousands of individuals each year, liposuction trims and tones the body to improve its shape and contours. Because everyone’s needs are unique, many different liposuction techniques have been developed to help patients achieve their ideal results. Here are some of the most frequently used liposuction techniques and how they can remove persistent fat and enhance your body contours.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is the worldwide standard approach for surgical fat removal. For this procedure, a tumescent solution containing local anesthesia is injected into the fatty tissue, causing the fat to become swollen and firm. A cannula, which is a thin, hollow tube, is inserted beneath the skin, and vacuum-powered equipment sends suction energy through the cannula to pull out excess fat cells from the treatment area. Because of the injection of local anesthesia, no general anesthesia or IV sedation is necessary. Tumescent liposuction is the safest form of liposuction and minimizes bruising and swelling while accelerating the rate of healing. Dr. Mouchantat prefers this technique for his liposuction candidates and has successfully used it to help countless patients improve their body contours.

Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) is another popular liposuction technique. It uses a specialized cannula with ultrasound waves to help break up the fat. The ultrasound energy emulsifies the fat so that it can be easily suctioned out of the body. This technique often has less blood loss and bruising, and it may produce especially precise results on treatment areas such as the male chest, neck, arms, and ankles.

Power-Assisted Liposuction

Like UAL, power-assisted liposuction (PAL) also uses a specialized cannula. The cannula for PAL vibrates rapidly and causes the fatty tissue to break apart so that it can be more easily removed. By so doing, PAL facilitates faster treatment times, less bruising, and greater precision while sculpting the abdomen, inner thighs, male chest, and other similar areas.

These and other liposuction techniques can all produce excellent results in reshaping the body and eliminating excess fat.
