Fat transfer (also known as “fat grafting”) is a procedure that uses fat taken from one area of the body to enhance another area of the body. It is a terrific way to refine your body contours by enhancing your breasts or buttocks while minimizing other areas like your lower abdomen, hips, or thighs.
How Fat Transfer Works
Fat transfer begins with liposuction, which is a fat reduction procedure that removes unwanted fat cells from one area of the body. These fat cells are then purified and placed into other areas of the same person’s body where more fat is needed. Transplanting the fat cells provides added volume for the target area to create more pleasing contours.
Candidates for Fat Grafting
Candidates for fat grafting are individuals who have stubborn, unwanted fat in some areas of their body and who would also like to enhance the softness or curvature of other areas of their body. Individuals who do not have sufficient fat from a “harvest site” (the area where fat is to be extracted from) may not be good candidates for this procedure. Candidates may also be concerned about the risks of fillers or implants, as fat grafting offers a natural alternative to these body contouring treatments.
Natural Body Contour Enhancement
Fat transfer is often used to provide a subtle, natural enhancement as opposed to inserting implants or fillers into the target area. The fat cells which have been extracted from the harvest site are already native to the body, which means there is no risk of an allergic reaction. These fat cells are merely being redistributed and can provide wonderful body contour enhancement without the risks associated with foreign implants.
Fat Transfer Results
The best part of fat transfer is that it improves the contour of two or more areas of the body at the same time. The harvest site from which the fat is initially extracted becomes slimmer and flatter. The target site where the fat is transplanted to becomes fuller, softer, and rounder. It’s a two-fold benefit with excellent, natural-looking results.
