Three Exercises to Help Perk Up Your Breasts

Ladies, it’s time to stop leaving all the chest exercises to the men. When you are at the park and that guy with the ripped pecs runs by to catch a football and your attention, the reason his chest looks like that is because of a solid routine of chest exercises. The fact is, some of these same work-outs can also help you add some lift to your breasts. Now don’t worry, you will still keep that feminine look, but over time, your chest will begin to perk up for a younger, refreshed look.

The Modified Push-Up

  1. Get into the push-up position with your palms flat against the floor. Bend your knees and raise your feet off the ground with your ankles crossed.
  2. Lower yourself down, keeping just a few inches between you and the floor
  3. Keeping your back straight, push up off the ground with your face angled toward the ground
  4. Do three sets of ten repetitions.

The Pec Press

  1. Set a couple of weights on the ground and lie down on a stability ball or aerobics step in between them so that your back is on top of the ball/step with your shoulders free to move.
  2. Grab the weights
  3. Hold the weights near your armpits with your elbows pointing out and push the weights up until your arms are fully extended then lower the weights back down
  4. Do three sets of twelve repetitions and increase the weight as you grow stronger

Isometric-Chest Contractions

  1. Stand slightly bent at the knee
  2. Grab both ends of a towel and hold it in front of you at about shoulder level
  3. Pull the towel in opposing directions at the same time while using a pulsating motion, keeping the towel taut at all times
  4. Do three one minute sets

It really is that simple. Just three exercises, three times a day, three times a week, and you will begin to notice an improvement in lift and tone within a few weeks.

Breast Implants Linked to a Better Sex Life

It is no secret that large breasts are like magnets to a man, but according to a recent study, getting breast implants also provides women with a pretty significant positive impact. About 61% of the women that participated in the study said that they are now having sex more often than they did before getting breast implants. They were also asked about their overall happiness in life to which over a third had reported seeing a significant increase in their lifestyle satisfaction.

So what is it about breast augmentation that is having this effect on women? Well, the connection is fairly simple. Self-confidence is critical for many women to achieve a pleasurable sex life, and if her partner is drooling over her new body, the confidence boost that she needs is right there! Also, self-confidence does a lot of good outside the bedroom as well. When a woman feels good about herself and how she looks, the confidence that she develops can be a very powerful thing.

Breast Augmentation 101

While breast augmentation currently ranks number one on the the list of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the United States, all it takes is a quick search to realize that there is still a lot of confusion circling around it. It seems like lately we’ve been more concerned about who is the latest celebrity to receive implants and less concerned about the real facts about the procedure. Well, hopefully this clears up some of the misconceptions about breast augmentation.

  1. Abnormal sagging is not caused by breast implants. While many people fear excess sagging from breast implants, the truth is that the implants are actually much more resistant to sagging than your own actual breast tissue. Therefore, sagging will only occur naturally as they would with age depending on the amount of natural breast tissue.
  2. Stretch marks are not a common side effect. Unless you are choosing one of the larger implants, you will not have to worry about stretch marks.
  3. Silicone and Saline implants are not the same. Silicone implants have been gaining popularity because of their more natural feel and look compared to the roundness of saline implant.
  4. Getting breast implants will not increase your chances of contracting breast cancer. While implants will not cause an increased risk of breast cancer, it is always important to inform your doctor of any family history of breast cancer to ensure your safety.
  5. Breast implants will not cause interference with mammograms. However, a few extra x-ray scans may be necessary to see around the implant.

New Teardrop Breast Implants Announced from Mentor

One of the most popular breast implant shapes today is the teardrop shape, which specifically imitates the natural shape of a woman’s breast. Now women looking for this shape will have more options, as a new implant was recently announced.

As reported in HealthDay News, a new line of teardrop-shaped breast implants have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in women over the age of 22. Known as MemoryShape implants, they were developed by Mentor Worldwide, and have been approved around the world for more than ten years. This implant shape recently made headlines when it was selected by Angelina Jolie for breast reconstruction following her double mastectomy.

New MemoryShape Implants Use Silicone Gel

The decision to approve these implants was based on ten-year study which is currently being conducted with nearly 1,000 women who have decided to try these new implants. Though the study has only amassed six years of data, the results were positive enough to convince the FDA to approve these silicone gel implants.

Women considering a breast augmentation, breast implant revision, or breast lift with implants now have more options than ever, with five different silicone-gel implants now approved by the FDA. This can help ensure that each woman can select the implant that best fits her situation and wishes. The MemoryShape implants come in a wide range of sizes, ensuring that women get precisely the results they want.

This variety of sizing options is also particularly helpful when performing a reconstructive procedure, allowing one reconstructed breast to match the other. In the case of a double mastectomy, the replacement implants can be selected to match the previous size and shape, making it easier to fit into a previous wardrobe. However, the implants may also be increased or decreased in size as necessary to give women the best results.

As with any procedure, it will be possible to work out these details during the consultation, and the various types of breast implants are often available to determine which size, shape and feel works best for each situation.

Cosmetic Procedures a Popular Father's Day Gift

denver plastic surgery menAs reported in The New York Times, Father’s Day has now become a popular time to give dads the gift of cosmetic procedures.

In the last few years, male cosmetic procedures have become more popular, thanks to media attention and the increased visibility of male celebrities speaking out about their procedures. And cosmetic procedures can be anything from minimally invasive facial fillers and Botox injections to full face lifts or tummy tucks. Choosing something that you know is important to the recipient’s heart, or letting them choose their own procedure, can help make this Father’s Day gift a big success.

Liposuction, Tummy Tucks Popular Treatments for Fathers

According to one source interviewed by the Times, at least one cosmetic surgeon’s office “has seen requests for procedures around Father’s Day go up close to 50 percent among men; the highest level than any other time of year.” It likely helps that this holiday occurs right at the beginning of summer, when people are getting ready to be out and active in the sun all season long.

For men, as with women, the most popular cosmetic treatments are non-surgical. Botox Cosmetic injections, now the gold standard of minimally invasive wrinkle treatment, help give a more youthful appearance for a comparatively low investment. Facial fillers and skin treatments are other non-invasive temporary solutions that can easily be repeated regularly.

For those seeking a more significant adjustment, the most popular surgical options for men currently include liposuction, nose jobs, eyelid surgery and breast reductions. In 2012, nearly 10% of all cosmetic surgeries were performed on men, up from 8% just a few years before, and almost 0% a few decades ago. This trend is likely to continue, as cosmetic surgery becomes accepted and common in the United States and around the world.

Study Shows Extreme Satisfaction After Breast Augmentation

denver breast implant surgeryIn a recent survey for the May issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 98% of women reported high levels of satisfaction with their recent breast augmentations surgeries, notably high numbers when compared to any other surgery.

This study, which evaluated 225 female breast augmentation patients, involved interviews at their one month post-surgery appointments, and then at future follow-up appointments. In addition to the near-universal satisfaction, more than half of these women reported that their experiences were “perfect,” giving them a 10 out of 10 in procedure satisfaction.

Breast Augmentation Has Major Impact on Self-Esteem

Of the 225 women who were surveyed, 92% stated that their surgery had improved their self-esteem. And 64% said that their quality of life had definitely improved. The augmentation also had a dramatic impact on the way these women viewed their breasts, with 86% feeling self-conscious about them before the surgery, and only 14% feeling self-conscious about them afterwards.

Regarding possibly the most difficult question in the breast augmentation decision, 85% of women felt that their new breasts were “just right” in size, while 13% wished that they were larger and 2% wished they were smaller. 99% of women were satisfied with the placement of the incisions, and 75% stated that the firmness of their new breasts was also “just right.”

Most women participating in the survey decided to have saline breast implants placed, rather than silicone, and the average breast implant size was 390cc. The average age of these women was 34, and the survey was compiled over a five-year period.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation was the most popular type of cosmetic surgery in 2012. There were more than 286,000 breast augmentation procedures performed, beating out liposuction, tummy tucks, rhinoplasty and brow lifts, which were many of the other most popular procedures during 2012.

Angelina Jolie Uses Teardrop-Shaped Breast Implants Following Mastectomy

breast implants after reconstruction

As recently reported widely in the news, Angelina Jolie has chosen to have a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer. Her chosen reconstruction option was teardrop-shaped breast implants, a popular choice by women getting traditional augmentation as well.

According to a recent article by NBC News, this type of breast implant was chosen in order to create a more natural look for the new breasts. The surgery also utilized donor skin to provide support and contour to the implants. This procedure, the last in a series of surgeries, was performed on April 27th.

Breast Implants for Angelina Jolie

Jolie’s three breast surgeries were all done through the creases underneath her breasts, in order to minimize the appearance of the incision lines. This is a common incision location for breast augmentation or revision, breast lifts and breast reduction surgeries. Her first surgery was focused on saving her nipples, and was successful. The second surgery was her total mastectomy, in which the breast tissue was removed and tissue expanders were put in place.

Though many women choose to have their implants put into place at the same time as the mastectomy, Jolie chose to split the breast implant portion of her treatment into two surgeries for the best cosmetic outcome. After the mastectomy, the tissue expanders were slowly filled with saline to make space for the new breast implants.

After adequate space had been created, Jolie’s new breast implants were put into place, with donor skin used to hold the implants in place. This tissue helped create a sling underneath the implant for additional support and the most natural appearance possible. According to Jolie’s surgeon, who visited with her in a house call four days later, “I was pleased to find her not only in good spirits with bountiful energy, but with two walls in her house covered with freshly assembled storyboards for the next project she is directing.”

Female Celebrities Fueling Current Arm Lift Trend

women inspired obama arms

First Lady Michelle Obama has inspired more women to improve their arms than anyone else, according to a recent poll.

This poll, which was conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, was recently discussed in a Los Angeles Times article. The much-talked about arm lift trend, which has caused arm lifts to increase by 4000% in the past decade, has led many to look for possible causes of this trend. The ASPS report states that one cause may be that women “are paying closer attention to the arms of female celebrities.”

Jennifer Aniston, Kelly Ripa, Demi Moore Are Also Arm Inspiration

While Michelle Obama may have been deeply inspirational to the women of the past few years, the other celebrities listed in the poll likely had a greater impact in the first half of the decade, before the 2008 election. These women include Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore and Kelly Ripa.

Many women are not able to achieve the arms they want through exercise and diet alone. According to Dr. David Reath, who serves as the chair of the ASPS Public Education Committee, “We are genetically programmed to have different accumulations of fat in different areas, and for some women the arms can be a problem area.”

These fat areas may often be treated through highly targeted and minimally invasive liposuction procedures. However, when the skin lacks its former elasticity, or there is too much arm tissue present, the excess skin must be surgically removed through a process known as an arm lift, or brachioplasty.

In an arm lift, an incision is made between the elbow and the armpit, with the length varying based on the amount of skin being removed. Excess skin and tissue are removed, giving the upper arm a sleeker, more toned appearance, and allowing it to more fully reflect other exercise and muscle-building activity. Other common procedures which target these types of deposits include thigh lifts, tummy tucks and buttocks lifts.

Getting Your Body Ready for Summer with Four Popular Treatments

beverly hills plastic surgeryFor those hoping to get their bodies back in tip-top shape, here are four pre-summer treatments which are always popular:

  • Medical-Grade Skin Products: As mentioned in a recent article for the international edition of marie claire, facial lines and wrinkles are often one of the primary concerns for those getting ready for summer. For mild facial aging, these issues are also the most treatable, with a wide range of possibilities from creams to face lifts. Medical-grade skin treatment products can tighten and firm skin. These skin treatments greatly vary in intensity based on the necessary amount of treatment.
  • Chemical Peels and Other Office Skin Treatments: Your skin tone really becomes important during the summer, when you want to be active in the sun yet keep yourself protected from possible damage. For improving skin tone, medical-grade skin products are an excellent first step, which may be followed with in-office treatments that may improve skin tone include microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser treatments.
  • Lip Injections: The lips are often a focal point for many facial aging concerns, as a key location for fine lines, wrinkles, as well as more dramatic facial lines that can really change the look of the face. Increased lip volume through facial fillers can help to alleviate many of these issues.
  • Face, Neck and Arm Lifts: More serious signs of aging may include sagging or excess skin, which often accumulates at the neck, face, upper arms and thighs. These more serious amounts of skin may not be treatable with injectable procedures and other minimally invasive treatments. For these men and women, surgical intervention may be necessary, to remove the excess skin and tighten the remaining tissue. The most popular versions of these procedures are facelifts and neck lifts, as well as arm lifts, thigh lifts and complete body lifts, when excess tissue is removed around the midsection.

Facial Fillers for Darker Skin: Experience Matters

darker skin dermal fillersThe unique properties of skin with darker pigmentation give it special requirements and risk factors when using dermal fillers, which are best handled by someone with experience in this area.

The growth in this demographic has led to increased dermal filler and Botox injections for these men and women as well, according to a recent story in Skin & Allergy News.

More Men and Women With Darker Skin Choosing Cosmetic Procedures

According to Dr. Valerie Callender, a dermatologist at Howard University, “Your typical skin of color patient is 45 years old, has some volume loss, some infraorbital hollowing, and is definitely concerned about laugh lines.”

Patients with darker skin pigmentation are at an increased risk of forming keloids, a type of scarring that may be caused by injections but is rare in those with lighter skin. Dr. Callender says that, “The No. 1 tip is to minimize the number of injections to minimize the risk of postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. If there is erythema, apply a topical corticosteroid.”

One advantage for those with darker pigmentation is that an increased amount of skin pigmentation tends to have a protective benefit against UV aging, helping darker skin to look 10 or even 20 years younger than comparable lighter skin.

The unique characteristics of the various types of skin have not been studied conclusively with regards to specific cosmetic treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers and other skin treatments. Dr. Callender noted that more trials are needed in the future to determine short and long-term effects of the many available treatments on patients with darker skin.
